The Michigan Wolverines ended nearly three decades of futility on Monday night, capturing the College Football Playoff national championship with a 34-13 win over Washington that got the program back to the mountaintop for the first time since 1997.
Coach Jim Harbaugh became a national champion for the first time in his career, and his father, Jack — a former college coach himself — shared an emotional message with the crowd.
Given the microphone by ESPN’s Rece Davis during the postgame celebration, the elder Harbaugh posed a simple question to the horde of Michigan fans.
“Who has it better than us?” Harbaugh asked as the mic cut out. “Nobody!”

Jack Harbaugh has been a major cheerleader for the Wolverines during this title run, and he even donned the headset, coming out of retirement this season to serve as the team’s assistant head coach during his son’s three-game suspension to begin the season.
