Jim Goodwin set for Aberdeen exit as he pays price for Darvel embarrassment

Jim Goodwin is set to be sacked as Aberdeen manager.

The Irishman has been made to wait for over 24-hours after the Dons' utterly embarrassing Scottish Cup defeat at the hands of Darvel on Monday.

The club's owner, Dave Cormack, refused to put the former St Mirren boss out of his misery yesterday.

However, it is expected, as has been widely reported, that the 41-year-old will be told his time in charge at Pittodrie is over today.

Goodwin has been in position at Aberdeen for only 11-months as he replaced Stephen Glass.

He's been under pressure from the stands in recent months after the World Cup break.

A string of poor results and performances led to supporters casting serious doubts over his ability to turn the club's poor form around.

That culminated in Monday night's disaster against Darvel in East Ayrshire. The shock cup exit to to the sixth-tier side meant his position became untenable.

He returned to Cormack Park for work as per usual on Tuesday.

However, it's believed that a board meeting, scheduled for this afternoon, will seal his fate.

Aberdeen face a trip to play Hibs at Easter Road on Saturday.

A caretaker manager will likely to take for the Premiership encounter, which sees both clubs under pressure of seeing their season collapse.

Goodwin was adamant in the aftermath of the Darvel defeat that he would not walk away from the job.

It seems the decision has been taken out of his hands.

Aberdeen's attentions will shortly turn to who replaces Goodwin in the dugout at Pittodrie.

Paul Lambert, Neil Lennon and Darren Fletcher are among the early frontrunners.
