Jim Goodwin admits St Mirren could be forced to find a free agent striker if top goalscorer Eamonn Brophy is ruled out for a lengthy spell.
And he revealed former Celtic, Hibs and Dundee striker Leigh Griffiths is on his list of potential targets should he need to bring in attacking reinforcements.
Brophy hobbled off during the first half of Tuesday night's 1-1 draw with Motherwell, having suffered ankle ligament damage.
The former Killie striker's scan results are set to be confirmed today, and if that rules him out for the majority of the rest of the season Goodwin revealed he won't hesitate to bring in some back up for his frontline.
He told Renfrewshire Live Sport: "It looks as if Brophy has damaged one of the ligaments on the outside of his right ankle.
"We're waiting on the results of the scan to come back with a definitive diagnosis, but it doesn't look particularly great at the moment.
"Kevin, our physio, is doing the best he can with the information he's got but until we get the scan result back, which hopefully we'll have by the end of the day, we can put a better timeframe on it.
"I wouldn't want to put a timeframe of a month or six weeks on it, it might only be two or three weeks.
"We'll rush him as much as we can and Eamonn is the type of boy who won't need to be 100 per cent and pain free to play. He's willing to go through the pain barrier for the team.
"If it's going to be four or five weeks out then we'll go to the free agent market. It's not one I particularly like looking through because they're free agents for a reason.
"He (Leigh) is on the list. He's a free agent and I know there are a number of clubs who are speaking to him at the minute.
"We'll wait and see what comes from that."
