Jim Goodwin 'extremely angry' at how Dundee United allowed Ross County a point

Jim Goodwin was left "extremely angry" at the manner Dundee United threw away three points against Ross County in Dingwall.

Eamonn Brophy's missed penalty for the home team looked to have proved pivotal, as it allowed Dundee United to take the lead shortly after the break when David Babunski scored past a helpless Ross Laidlaw.

However, in a dramatic turn of events, the Staggies managed to equalise deep into stoppage time, with Ronan Hale finding the back of the net in the fifth minute of added time.

While Goodwin conceded that the draw was probably a fair outcome, he was deeply frustrated by the way his side let their advantage slip away, calling it an "unacceptable" mistake.

“I’m extremely angry and frustrated at how we concede the equaliser," the Dundee United boss raged.

"To be 1-0 up and in the fifth minute of injury time, we should see the game through.

“There are three of our guys competing for one ball with Jordan White. We’ve got to manage that situation so much better. We end up with a 2 v 1 situation in the middle of the goal and we’re marking space when we should be marking the player.

“It’s unacceptable at this level – you make those mistakes and you get punished.

“We’re sitting here with two points when we really could have six.”

Ross County manager Don Cowie praised his teams never say die attitude as they continued to battle until the final whistle.

“I thought it was a big step up from last week, which was more of a battling performance,” Cowie explained.

“I was delighted with the first-half performance against Dundee United. We were really good in possession, with plenty of options for the man on the ball.

“We had a real cutting edge at the end of it as well. As I’ve spoken about to the group, the game can change so quickly.

“That’s what happened at the start of the second half. It’s about being prepared for that, and trying to swing that momentum around.

“We didn’t manage to do it, but we kept going until that moment came and we got the equaliser.”
