The "Theory X" and "Theory Y" analyses of what drives various employees in an organisation were created by McGregor.
Maslov, whose now-80-year-old paper "A Theory of Human Motivation" introduced the hierarchy of needs, was more closely linked to Gavin's sporting career because of the line "What a man can be, he must be."
