Jim Davidson persuades judge to cut speeding ban - then heads straight to the pub

Jim Davidson represented him in court today after he was given a 12-month driving ban for speeding, before celebrating in the pub.

The comedian had been travelling at 36mph in a 30mph zone in his Mercedes in March last year on Maybray King Way in Southampton.

It is one of the busiest speed cameras in the country - with it being triggered an average of 70 times a day from 2015 to 2017.

The 69-year-old was handed a 12-month driving ban, three penalty points and a £333 fine at Aldershot Magistrates' Court earlier this year.

Mr Davidson appeared at Southampton Crown Court today and represented himself after his barrister was stuck in another trial.

He managed to impress the judge and get his driving ban cut in half to six months.

A celebratory statement on his website after the legal victory said: "Jim represented himself in court as his barrister was stuck in another trial and the court refused to adjourn the hearing.

"Judge Peter Henry praised Jim for his presentation and accepted that there was some exceptional hardship but not enough to overturn the ban completely.

"Following the decision, Jim had to leave his car outside the court and walk two miles in blistering heat...and is now downing his third pint of lager."

Mr Davidson is best known for hosting television shows Big Break and The Generation Game.

He has also appeared in the sitcoms Up The Elephant And Around The Castle and Home James.

In 1990, he had his one-man show Stand Up Jim Davidson.

Mr Davidson went on to win the 13th series of Celebrity Big Brother.

Last month, he said he was "gutted" after splitting from his wife of 14 years Michelle Cotton.

He revealed on stage during his Not Yet Cancelled tour that he's currently undergoing "divorce No5" with his wife.

He is said to be "really sad and gutted" that they haven't been able to make their relationship work and that he's "not thrilled" at the prospect of going through another public divorce.

It comes after his previous four divorces are believed to have cost him up to £60million.

“He’s resigned to the reality nothing can be done," a source told The Sun.
