Jim Carrey is selling his sprawling Los Angeles home of 30 years for £23.9 million ($28.9 million).

Located in Brentwood —where fellow residents have included Arnold Schwarzenegger, LeBron James and Tobey Maguire— the actor’s “one-of-a-kind magical sanctuary” is on the market for the first time in 30 years.

Covering an expansive 12,704 sq ft and set on two acres of land, Carrey’s ranch-style house is mostly one-storey, billed as “a true home retaining its heart and charm”.

Still, it is not short of extravagances. There is a custom-made Art Deco cinema, “as striking as the famous movie palaces”. A tennis court, waterfall pool and gym. An infrared sauna and steam room. An outdoor “yoga and meditation platform”. A vegetable garden. A pool table under a wooden gazebo. An outdoor, covered bed. The list goes on.

Built in 1951, the five-bedroom house is set up for that famous California indoor-outdoor living. The circular breakfast room is surrounded by windows, overlooking the flowering pear trees outside.

Glass doors from one reception room lead out onto a courtyard patio, while another, the “owner’s suite”, has a large bay window and private covered balcony.

There is also a separate pool house containing a bar, fireplace and the sauna and steam room.

Inside, Carrey has gone for neutral tones: white walls, polished brick and hardwood floors and pitched beamed ceilings.

Things get more dramatic in the bathrooms, one of which is marble and filled with sculptures; another is wood panelled, featuring a large bath and a roaring fireplace.

Carrey has decorated his home with some of his own art, including a large painting of four dancing figures in the living room called Hooray We Are All Broken and his sculpture, Alya, depicting a naked woman looking through a window frame, which is on his lawn.

The actor, who starred in The Grinch, Ace Ventura:Pet Detective, Dumb and Dumber and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind in his 39-year TV and film career, has immortalised some of his roles on his walls too.

His Santa Claus costume from The Grinch is hung on the wall of the home cinema, while his green Riddler suit from Batman Forever is kept in a glass case by the adjacent “snack area”, where he also showcases his awards.

Despite “30 very creative and prosperous years” in the house, as Carrey told The Wall Street Journal, he has decided to move on.

“Every night the owls sang me lullabies and every morning I sipped my cup of joe with the hawks and hummingbirds, under a giant grandfather pine,” he said in a statement. “I want someone else to enjoy it like I have.”
