Jim Bob Cooter resurfacing as the new Jaguars passing game coordinator

Former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter has found a new coaching home. Per numerous reports, Cooter will be the new passing game coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Cooter was the Lions’ OC from 2015 through 2018, when he was not retained by then-coach Matt Patricia. Ironically, he was replaced in Detroit by Darrell Bevell, who was just let go by the Jaguars after being their interim head coach and OC himself.

Prior to becoming the Lions’ OC, Cooter was the QB coach. His work with Matthew Stafford earned significant praise and helped Stafford elevate into a better all-around quarterback. The Jaguars are clearly hoping Cooter, himself a former Tennessee QB, can do that for Trevor Lawrence in Jacksonville. He doesn’t figure to call the plays for the Jaguars and new head coach Doug Pederson, which eliminates most Lions fans’ biggest complaint about Cooter.

After leaving the Lions, Cooter was the running backs coach for the New York Jets under Adam Gase in 2019-2020 and served as a consultant for the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2021 season.
