The showbiz world is reeling following the shocking images showing the wife of Weezer bassist Jillian Lauren laying face down in the street having been shot by police.
Lauren was then arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly pointing a gun at officers from outside her house.
So what exactly went down with the shooting and what will happen next? Here’s everything we know so far.
Who is Jillian Lauren?
New Jersey-born Jillian Lauren, 51, is a former member of the harem of Prince Jefri Bolkiah of Brunei, in Hawaii, and the author of two bestselling memoirs.
She grew up in Livingston, New Jersey, but later moved to New York City, where she briefly studied acting at New York University.
In addition to being married to a member of a famous rock band, Lauren is well-known for her memoirs and her work as a true crime author.
The 51-year-old has written two acclaimed memoirs, Some Girls: My Life in a Harem in 2010 and Everything You Ever Wanted in 2015.
Some Girls: My Life in a Harem
The book is an autobiographical account of her experience as a member of a harem kept by Brunei's Prince Jefri Bolkiah in the 1990s. The memoir's unvarnished glimpse into a clandestine world of riches, power, and exploitation garnered extensive media attention.
Everything You Ever Wanted
Her second book details her struggles with trauma and parenting after adopting a child from Ethiopia. She is renowned for her reporting on true crime and played a significant role in the investigation of the life of serial killer Samuel Little, who the FBI claims was the most prolific serial killer in American history.
Lauren has performed at many storytelling events across the United States and is a regular storyteller with The Moth.
In 2014, she gave a TEDx Talk at Chapman University about identity and adoption.
She has also been interviewed on The Howard Stern Show, Good Morning America, and The View.
In March, she revealed that she had undergone surgery for cancer, but did not disclose what type.
Sharing a picture on social media of her giving the thumbs up while laying on a hospital bit, Lauren wrote: “I’d like to thank the Academy, my amazing hair and makeup team, and the lighting designers here at #glendaleadventisthospital . As if they all hadn’t been through enough with the fires right next door! Yes, I have a little bit of the C word y’all. I know a lot of us do.

Who is Scott Shriner, when did they get married and do they have children?
Scott Shriner, 59, is the bassist for rock band Weezer.
The Los Angeles-based outfit first formed in 1992 and are beloved for their 1994 record unofficially known as the Blue Album, featuring songs including Say It Ain't So and Buddy Holly.
Shriner joined the band in the early 2000s.
The couple tied the knot in 2005 and live in the Los Angeles area.
They share two adopted sons, their first being a boy from Ethiopia who was adopted in 2009. The couple are very private and don’t share much about their children.
The pair also own two dogs: Calvin and Peanut, who made an appearance in a PETA video urging people to adopt from shelters.
What happened with the LAPD?
Police said they were assisting California Highway Patrol officers in their search for three suspects from a misdemeanor hit-and-run. Lauren was not among the suspects. But while pursuing one of them, who had reportedly been running through a backyard, police say they came upon Lauren in the front yard of her neighbouring residence, holding a handgun.
They ordered her several times to drop the gun, but she refused, and pointed it at them, police allege. They did not say whether she fired the gun, but said she was shot in the shoulder when police opened fire on her after she allegedly refused to drop the weapon and pointed it at the officers.
After being arrested and admitted to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Lauren was then charged in absentia for attempted murder. Law enforcement officials said she was not a part of the initial hit-and-run event that led to the police response.
However, she is still being investigated even though she was physically released from detention after receiving treatment.
The LAPD said in a press release: “Officers ordered her to drop the handgun numerous times; however, she refused. She pointed the gun at officers—which is when they fired on her.”
A 9-millimeter handgun was recovered from the house, the police statement said.
Will Jillian Lauren be ok?
Lauren sustained injuries that were not life threatening after the shooting in the north-east Los Angeles neighborhood of Eagle Rock, the Los Angeles Police Department said in a statement.
She was taken to a hospital for treatment.
What happens now?
At the time of writing, LA County jail records show Lauren is being held on $1 million bail.
Lauren has not made a court appearance, and it was not immediately clear whether she has hired a lawyer. There were no immediate responses to an email to her manager and a message left on her author website. There was also no response to an email seeking comment from a representative for Weezer.
Will Weezer still perform at Coachella?
Weezer is scheduled to play the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on Saturday. They are also due to perform at Glastonbury Festival in June.
There is no indication that Shriner was involved in the incident that led up to Lauren’s arrest.
