Jill Scott expects Ant & Dec's Newcastle roots to work against her on I'm A Celebrity

Jill Scott has revealed that she expects Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly's Newcastle roots to work against her while she's in the I'm A Celebrity jungle.

The footballer, 35, retired from England's national team earlier this year and has now set her sights on a new challenge.

The much-loved Sunderland sports star, who was the fifth confirmed celebrity of the 2022 series, has joked that I'm A Celebrity hosts Ant and Dec may not give her an easy time in the jungle, given the rivalry between Sunderland and Newcastle - where the famous Geordie duo hail from.

Speaking to The Mirror, Jill quipped: "Because people who are Newcastle and Sunderland fans know that it goes very deep, very deep, competitive kinds of sides between the two teams. So yeah, I don't think they'll be helping me out too easily. But I've got to stick to my red and white and I'm sure they've got to stick to the black and white."

Jill also lifted the lid on what her nightmare campmate would be, as she shared her hopes of an easy time in the campsite - with no confrontation or arguments.

The Lioness hero explained: "I think maybe probably just like somebody with attributes that I didn't like. Maybe lazy? I don’t like laziness, obviously, coming from a sporting background.

"And I don't like rudeness either. I don't mind if people want to speak their opinion. I think that's important in a team and everybody's opinions have to be valued, but I think you can still do that without being rude."

When she was asked what would be more nerve-wracking – the Euros final or the jungle – she said: "That is a very good question but I don't think anything will test my nerves as much as that final.

"I have never really been confronted by snakes and spiders in England so I don't know how I will react to them, apart from a spider in the bath every now and then."

Jill took a step back from football shortly after the Lionesses beat Germany in the UEFA Women's European Championship in July – finally bringing football home.

During her career, Jilly played in 10 major tournaments, including two Olympics with Great Britain, as well as helping England win Euro 2022.

Midfielder Jill grabbed the attention of the nation when she appeared to aim a number of expletives at Germany's Sydney Lohmann during the Euros final, with the clip going viral.

She could be using those types of words again on TV if chosen to do a particularly difficult trial.

Addressing the controversy around her swearing earlier this year, Jill said that it's unlikely she will use language like that while in the jungle.

"In hindsight to that situation, I don't like swearing so, but I think at the same time that probably just showed my competitive and kind of passionate side when whenever I was playing football."

I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! returns Sunday November 6 at 9PM on ITV1.
