A Jewish student at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) expressed feeling uncomfortable going on campus on Thursday due to a protest that had formed at the school. The student body president at UCSB, described a protest that had taken over the student resource building on campus. The protest involved lectures, food distribution, and chants similar to those at other universities.
The student highlighted concerns about the protest taking place indoors on university property, leading to students being denied access to the space. Reports of antisemitic incidents during the protest added to the discomfort felt by the student and others on campus.
Due to feeling fearful and uncomfortable, the student, who lives off-campus, chose not to attend the university on Thursday. She mentioned that fellow students and administrators had shared details of the situation on campus with her. Despite reaching out to the administration for a response on the matter, no reply was received.
Since October 7, the student has faced personal targeting and harassment, particularly after overcoming impeachment efforts. The student expressed determination not to back down in the face of these challenges.
The university has been contacted for comment on the ongoing protest, but no response has been provided at the time of reporting.
