Jewellery and cash worth thousands stolen from house in Renfrew

Thousands of pounds of jewellery and cash were stolen after crooks targeted a house in Renfrew.

The homeowners have been left devastated by the high-value theft, which saw crooks raid the Cockels Loan property and take the items which were of “significant sentimental value”.

The thieves made off with the traditional Chinese style jewellery which was worth tens of thousands of pounds, along with a four-figure sum of cash late on Wednesday afternoon.

The owners of the property were not home when the house was targeted, which police say was between 4.30pm and 6pm.

Police have now launched an investigation into the high-value theft, and are keen to hear from members of the public if any suspicious cars or people were in the area during the day.

Detectives are currently checking CCTV and are now following one line of enquiry following reports of a man entering a black estate car near to the address around 5.30pm.

Detective Inspector Iain Ross, of Renfrew CID, said: “Whilst the jewellery is of significant value - it is also of tremendous sentimental value to the owners who are understandably very upset by the theft.

“Officers are carrying out enquiries in the area and are checking CCTV.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously around the house between 11.30am and 6.30pm.

“We are particularly keen to trace a man seen in the area around 5.30pm entering a car, either an old style Ford Fiesta or a black Audi estate car, parked near the address.

“Those two cars were in the area at the time and drove off down Cockels Loan towards the junction with Paisley Road.

“The man is described as white, 5ft 8ins in height, slim build, in his late twenties, with short fair hair.

“He was wearing black trousers and a black polo top.”
