Jets to Retain Coach Robert Saleh, GM Joe Douglas for 2024, per Report

The current New York Jets regime will get another opportunity in 2024.

As the Jets finish what amounts to a lost 2023 campaign after entering the season with as much hope and optimism as they have in recent memory, questions have emerged about the job security of coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas.

A Saturday report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport stated there was no indication of any major changes coming from Jets owner Woody Johnson in regard to the status of Saleh or Douglas. But on Sunday, the news came straight from the source.

In an interview with Brian Costello of The New York Post, Johnson said he intends to keep Saleh and Douglas heading into the ’24 season.

“My decision is to keep them. I think we’ve had some very positive moves. The culture of the team is a lot better. The defense is better. The offense needs a few pieces,” Johnson told Costello.

New York Jets coach Robert Saleh reportedly is poised to return to the team next season despite a difficult 2023 campaign without quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

New York (5—9) entered the ’23 season as a Super Bowl contender after their April blockbuster trade for Aaron Rodgers

But those championship hopes took a massive hit when Rodgers suffered a torn right Achilles tendon just four snaps into the season. Held back by quarterback struggles ever since, New York was eliminated from postseason contention after its Week 15 loss to the Miami Dolphins despite fielding one of the league’s best defenses.

Clearly, Johnson feels that a Jets team quarterbacked by Rodgers can contend for a championship. Time will tell if he’s right.
