The New York Jets have made the decision to rest quarterback Aaron Rodgers and all projected starters for the upcoming preseason finale against the Giants. This move comes as the team prepares for their season opener against San Francisco on September 9.

Rodgers, who suffered a left Achilles tendon injury in his Jets debut last year, has been deemed healthy and has had an impressive training camp. Despite showing no signs of the previous injury, the Jets coaching staff has opted to prioritize rest and preparation over playing time in the final preseason game.

Head coach Robert Saleh emphasized that the team has had productive training sessions and scrimmages leading up to the regular season. He highlighted the extensive work the starters have put in during joint practices with other teams, which he believes has been more beneficial than playing in the preseason finale.

The decision to sit out the starters is not based on injury concerns, as Saleh pointed out that injuries can occur at any time, even during practice. Instead, the focus is on ensuring that the team is adequately prepared for the challenges of the regular season.

Rookie Adrian Martinez, last season's UFL MVP, will start in place of Rodgers against the Giants, with fellow rookie Andrew Peasley taking over in the second half. This means that veteran backup Tyrod Taylor will also not see any playing time in the preseason finale.

While Rodgers and the other starters will not be on the field for the final preseason game, the Jets coaching staff remains confident in the preparation and work ethic displayed throughout training camp. The team is looking forward to kicking off the regular season with a well-prepared roster.
