As we continue looking back the Jets’ incredible victory over the Cleveland Browns in Week 2, we’ll now take a look at how much playing time each player received in the win.
Starting on offense, the Jets played 70 snaps. The usual suspects (Joe Flacco, all five starting offensive linemen) played every single snap. Tight end Tyler Conklin also played every snap. Last week, Conklin played 72 out of 84 snaps.
Following those seven come the top three wide receivers. Elijah Moore played 61 snaps (87%), Corey Davis played 55 snaps (79%) and Garrett Wilson played 43 snaps (61%). It sure felt like Wilson played a lot more because he saw so many targets. But he actually played just two more snaps against Cleveland than he did against Baltimore (41). The difference is that New York played fewer snaps overall against Cleveland (70) than Baltimore (84), so Wilson’s playing time percentage went up, from 49% to 61%.
The running back split was much more in favor of Michael Carter this week. Carter played 43 snaps (61%) compared to just 19 snaps (27%) for Breece Hall. Last week, it was 60% for Carter and 45% for Hall. That should be about the normal at some point down the line. Hall bounced back big time from his rough debut to score a touchdown against the Browns.
Rounding out the offense for the Jets, we have TE Jeremy Ruckert with 18 snaps (26%) in his NFL debut, where he dropped his only target, followed by WR Braxton Berrios with 16 snaps (23%), RB Ty Johnson 13 snaps (19%), WR Jeff Smith 10 snaps (14%) and TE Kenny Yeboah 2 snaps (3%).
Flipping to the defense, there were 67 snaps available. Playing all 67 were Lamarcus Joyner, C.J. Mosley, D.J. Reed and Jordan Whitehead. LB Quincy Williams played 66 snaps (99%) and CB Sauce Gardner saw 63 snaps (93%).
We get another look at how Robert Saleh rotates his defensive linemen. Going through the front four, we have Carl Lawson and Sheldon Rankins each with 39 snaps (58%), Quinnen Williams 38 (57%), John Franklin-Myers 31 (46%), Solomon Thomas 26 (39%), Nathan Shepherd 25 (37%), Jacob Martin 24 (36%) and Micheal Clemons 23 (34%).
Just like last week, somewhere between about a third to two-thirds of the snaps for the defensive linemen, keeping everybody fresh.
Kwon Alexander played 31 snaps (46%) and Jermaine Johnson saw 22 snaps (33%).
Finally, in the secondary after Gardner and Reed, Michael Carter II saw 36 snaps (54%), Brandin Echols 5 (7%) and Tony Adams with one snap.
Ashtyn Davis also only played just one snap, but he certainly made the most of it. Indeed, his interception to seal the Jets victory was his only snap on defense.
