The Jets are adding Aaron Rodgers to the team’s active roster but he will not play in the team’s final three games, coach Robert Saleh told media members Wednesday.
The quarterback told ˆThe Pat McAfee Show crew Tuesday that he is not 100% healthy and it was “unrealistic to think that I would be 100% to be medically cleared at any point during the regular season.”
“We’re still going to keep him on the active [roster],” Saleh said, per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. “It’s all part of his rehab. Just having him on the field is a plus for everybody, for him and his teammates.”
Since tearing his Achilles on Sept. 11, Rodgers had made a remarkably fast recovery and repeatedly stated his hope to return to the field if New York was still in playoff contention. But with a 5–9 record, the Jets are officially eliminated from the postseason and Rodgers won’t be suiting up under center.
Saleh also shared that quarterback Zach Wilson is currently in concussion protocol but didn’t rule him out against the Commanders on Sunday with kickoff set for 1 p.m. ET on CBS.
