Jets safeties coach Marquand Manuel to interview for Jaguars defensive coordinator job Thursday

A Jets assistant is getting an interview this week during this coaching cycle but it may not be who you initially would expect.

Safeties coach Marquand Manuel will interview Thursday for the vacant defensive coordinator position the Jacksonville Jaguars under head coach Doug Pederson. This according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.

Manuel just wrapped up his third season coaching the Jets’ safeties. He has been a coach in the NFL since 2012, with stops in Seattle, Atlanta and Philadelphia — Manuel worked under Pederson in 2020. Manuel has two years of experience as a defensive coordinator, having held the role with the Falcons in 2017 and 2018 under head coach Dan Quinn.

Jacksonville fired defensive cornerback Mike Caldwell following a 9-8 season that saw the Jaguars lose five of their final six games to fall out of the playoffs.
