As the Jets get set to take the practice field to begin preparations for the Buffalo Bills on Monday night, they released their first official depth chart of the regular season. As was probably expected, there are no major surprises across the board. Everything is pretty much status quo.
However, there is an interesting note on special teams. For both kick returner and punt returner the Jets have it listed as Mecole Hardman OR Xavier Gipson. So there looks to still be a battle between the two for the role. Gipson saw plenty of work in the return game during the preseason which is how he solidified his spot on the 53-man roster. Perhaps the Jets aren’t wanting to give anything away just yet or maybe they truly are still deciding on who will return kicks. We should find out more this week.
