Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams was the latest NFL star asked about the league’s ongoing debate between the use of turf and grass field in stadiums.
After Aaron Rodgers suffered an Achilles injury in Week 1 of the 2023 season on the turf at MetLife Stadium, the conversation has been brought back to the forefront.
Reporters asked Williams for his take on the matter on Thursday, and the 25-year-old responded with one of the most “football guy” quotes of all time.
“Me, myself, man, it’s a football game. I’m prepared to put the quarterback down.... It could be on concrete for all I care, like I don’t really care. That’s my preference, that’s my opinion. I love this football game, I love football in general and just competing, and that’s all I’m worried about is just playing football,” said Williams, via SNY.

While some players have voiced their desire to have grass fields at all NFL stadiums, Williams falls under the crop of players who simply have no preference between the two. Instead, he just wants to strap on the gear and get on the field with his teammates, willing to do battle on whatever playing surface is available.
On the turf at MetLife in Week 1, Williams recorded five tackles, one tackle for loss, one QB hit and a fumble recovery during New York’s overtime win against the Bills.
