Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams will not attend the start of the team’s voluntary offseason program Monday because he has yet to sign a contract extension, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. When the season ended, Williams said he wouldn’t attend the program without a new deal, and it appears he’s being true to his word.
He’s due $9.594 million on the fifth-year option of his rookie deal and is expected to command a hefty price tag after having the best season of his career.
Williams, 25, was named to his first Pro Bowl in 2022 and received first-team All-Pro recognition as well. He registered 12 sacks, 51 tackles and two forced fumbles during the career year. Without him in the fold, New York’s playoff hopes would take a major hit despite the expectation that Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is expected to be traded to the team.
It’s unclear why the two sides have yet to agree on an extension or how much compensation Williams is seeking at this time.
