The Baltimore Ravens will face off against the New York Jets in Week 1 of the 2022 season. There are multiple former Baltimore players who will face off against their former team, but one might be starting at quarterback in Joe Flacco.
New York quarterback Zach Wilson suffered a bone bruise and a torn meniscus in Week 1 of the 2022 preseason, and had surgery on the knee on Tuesday. His initial timeline to return is around 2-to-4 weeks, meaning Flacco could get the start against the Ravens if Wilson is unable to suit up in the opening game of the year.
Flacco was asked for his thoughts about potentially starting against his former team, and admitted he’s thought about it “a tiny bit”.

The veteran quarterback spent 11 years in Baltimore as a member of the Ravens, completing 3,771-of-6,108 passes for 41,269 yards, throwing for 227 touchdowns and 144 interceptions. He also led Baltimore to a Super Bowl during the 2012-2013 season, throwing 11 touchdowns and zero interceptions.
If Flacco is the one to start in Week 1 he would go up against a former teammate in quarterback Lamar Jackson, which would be another storyline to consider. It’s unclear if Flacco will ultimately be the man under center for Week 1, but if he is it will certainly add a lot more intrigue to the contest.
