Jets place Wes Schweitzer on injured reserve for second time, season likely over

The Jets placed guard Wes Schweitzer on injured reserve for the second time this season with a calf injury. Schweitzer seemingly reaggravated the calf injury that originally placed him on injured reserve after the Week 8 win against the Giants. This move likely ends Schweitzer’s season. He is eligible to return for Week 18 against the Patriots, but given the state of the team and the likelihood of being out of the playoffs, the Jets may choose to keep Schweitzer on injured reserve for the rest of the season.

Schweitzer signed a two-year deal worth $5 million as a free agent this offseason. The deal included $3.2 million guaranteed. Assuming he is out for the season, Schweitzer will have played six games this season with two starts.

Also Saturday, the Jets signed guard Jake Hanson to the active roster. Hanson may get the start at right guard in place of Schweitzer. If so, it will be the 10th different starting offensive line in 13 games for the Jets this season. It would also mark nine straight games with a different starting lineup.

In addition, the Jets elevated guard Chris Glaser and defensive lineman Jalyn Holmes from the practice squad. Glaser will be the eighth offensive lineman against the Texans while Holmes could add depth up front with John Franklin-Myers questionable with an ankle injury.
