The framework of an Aaron Rodgers trade appears to be ready. The only missing piece is Aaron Rodgers.
The nuts and bolts of a trade sending the Packers quarterback to the Jets are “essentially done,” according to a Saturday morning report from Connor Hughes of SNY.
“Everything that needs to be done is essentially done in regards to a trade. Sides have worked out what needs to be worked out. So if Rodgers wants to be a Jet, he will be a Jet,” Hughes wrote. “Broken record, but … just waiting on him to decide.”
Despite the update from Hughes, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that the Packers and Jets have, in fact, not agreed upon any sort of framework for a trade involving Rodgers. Both teams are still waiting for word from the quarterback before working to strike a deal.
Rodgers has largely been in a holding pattern since Green Bay’s season ended with a 20–16 home loss to the Lions on Jan. 8. In mid-February, he went on a well-publicized sensory-deprivation “darkness retreat” for several days in Oregon.
Since the Packers drafted him in the first round in 2005, Rodgers has won four MVP awards and Super Bowl XLV with Green Bay.
