Jets legend Darrelle Revis to Mekhi Becton: ‘Ignore the noise’

Darrelle Revis is rooting for Mekhi Becton.

The former Jets cornerback tweeted at Becton on Monday to offer the tackle some advice heading into his third season with Gang Green.

Becton hasn’t had the easiest six months since dislocating his kneecap in Week 1 of the NFL season. He’s endured countless reports about his health, weight and conditioning, and Robert Saleh recently said Becton will fight for the starting left tackle job. Becton has also dealt with countless social media critics while he continues to recover from his injury.

But at least Revis, who has his own injury history and volatile relationship with Jets fans, is on Becton’s side. Revis held out numerous times while playing for the Jets, tore his ACL, was traded to the Buccaneers and signed with the Patriots before returning to the Jets for a second, disappointing stint. He retired with New York in 2018.

Becton clearly appreciated Revis’ show of support. He tweeted back at Revis following the cornerback’s initial tweet.

Revis is right; the 2022 season is huge for Becton.

After a great rookie campaign, Becton missed almost all of 2021 with the aforementioned knee injury, and his failure to return to the field fueled a plethora of rumors about his future with the Jets. George Fant’s solid play in Becton’s absence, coupled with Saleh’s tepid commitment to Becton’s starting role, didn’t help things, either.

If Becton is healthy for 2022, he’ll need to prove to the Jets that he can return to his rookie form. Otherwise, the team may move on from him two years after drafting him 11th overall.
