Jets leaning towards Zach Wilson at QB; Wilson reportedly reluctant to step back in

The Jets are back to the drawing board on which quarterback they will roll with after benching Tim Boyle in favor of Trevor Siemian during Sunday’s 13-8 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. They could go back to Zach Wilson, whom they benched in Week 11 in favor of Boyle.

However, according to Dianna Russini and Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic, Wilson is reluctant to step back in as the starter. The Jets are hoping he changes his mind.

Wilson is 3-6 this season, completing 190 of 321 passes for 1,944 yards with six touchdowns and seven interceptions. He’s also been sacked 38 times, a mix of his own doing and the turnstile that is the Jets offensive line. Only Washington’s Sam Howell (58) and Carolina’s Bryce Young (44) have been sacked more this season.

Perhaps Wilson knows the offense is a mess and he would only put himself at risk behind the offensive line while also being held back by coaching and play calling.

The Jets host the Houston Texans in Week 14 and are now scrambling to figure out their quarterback situation, which now seems to include trying to persuade the quarterback they just benched two weeks ago to come back into the lineup. Simply incredible.
