Jets land Tyrod Taylor on very team-friendly contract

The Jets have their backup quarterback in Tyrod Taylor and the team was surprised they were able to get the deal they did for him.

The Jets signed Taylor for $6.5 million guaranteed this season and he can earn another $13.5 million through playing time and other incentives. Overall, this contract works out in favor of the Jets.

It turned out there wasn’t much of a market for Taylor and the Jets didn’t expect to land Taylor. But they did and that was a checkmark on the list for general manager Joe Douglas. The Jets had to come away with a veteran backup in some capacity. They weren’t going through what they went through last season with the carousel of Zach Wilson, Tim Boyle and Trevor Siemian. Not with so much on the line this season.

The Jets have done well to this point in this offseason. But as last season proved, no one cares who won in March. It has to come together later this year. The Jets need to be playing meaningful football in January or nothing will matter.
