Jets interviewing former Patriots longtime rival for head coaching job

The New York Jets are expected to interview former longtime New England Patriots rival coach, Rex Ryan, for their vacant head coaching job.

After firing Robert Saleh, the Jets made the decision to move forward with Jeff Ulbrich as the interim coach, but it’s likely a move that isn’t going to stand with the team looking like a total disaster.

Ryan revealed on ESPN New York Radio that he expects to interview for the Jets job. It’s a job Ryan held from 2009-2014 and found success during his run.

The Jets haven’t been back to the playoffs since Ryan led the team to the 2010 AFC Championship Game. They upset the Patriots in that postseason run and then fell in defeat to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Ryan spent two more years as a head coach in the AFC East with the Buffalo Bills, after leaving the Jets. When he wasn’t in the same division as the Patriots, he spent nearly a decade bedeviling Tom Brady and Bill Belichick as the defensive line coach and eventually the defensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens.

Along with Ryan, the Jets are also expected to interview former Washington Commanders coach Ron Rivera.
