Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson discussed the season-ending injury sustained by quarterback Aaron Rodgers in the team’s first game of the year on Monday night.
During an appearance on ESPN Radio’s Bart and Hahn Show, Wilson was asked about Rodgers’s injury, to which he had a solemn response, saying that his “heart hurts for Aaron.”
“My heart hurts for Aaron. Just seeing him last night and the emotion that was going into him getting out there... it sucks man,” said Wilson.
The second-year wide receiver revealed the conversation he had with Rodgers after the injury, indicating that he stopped in at halftime to speak with the 39-year-old.
“At halftime I just went in to check on him in the training room, just made sure I gave him a hug, told him I love him. It really hurt my heart. He told me, ‘Sorry kid.’ Just like that. ‘Sorry kid.’” Wilson said. “Truly heartbroken, for real.”

Rodgers had been acquired by the Jets in a trade with the Packers during the offseason. His arrival boosted New York into the conversation of being a Super Bowl contender, and it’s clear he and Wilson had quickly developed a strong bond.
With Rodgers’s season over, head coach Robert Saleh declared that Zach Wilson will be back in the starting role.
In Week 1, Wilson led the Jets with five receptions and scored a crucial touchdown during the overtime win.
