The New York Jets are seemingly looking for a veteran quarterback to add to their roster following Aaron Rodgers’ season-ending injury, and they had their sights on Brett Rypien. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Jets expressed interest in signing Rypien before the Los Angeles Rams promoted him from their practice squad.

Rodgers suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in his debut for the Jets on Monday night. While New York is handing the keys to the offense to Zach Wilson, the Jets are seeking a veteran signal-caller to add to their quarterback room.
Rypien, who the Rams brought in during the offseason, was signed to the team’s practice squad after Stetson Bennett was named the backup to Matthew Stafford. Bennett is now on the NFI list and the Rams promoted Rypien to operate as the No. 2 quarterback ahead of Sunday’s matchup with the San Francisco 49ers.
Nathaniel Hackett, the current offensive coordinator of the Jets, was with the Denver Broncos a season ago as the head coach. Rypien was the backup to Russell Wilson in 2022 with the Broncos, so he has experience in Hackett’s system.
With Tim Boyle as the only other quarterback on their roster right now, the Jets are looking for experienced quarterbacks who are available without having to make a trade. But with the Rams needing Rypien ahead of Week 2, the Jets were unable to sign the fourth-year quarterback off of the practice squad.
