Believe it or not, what little hope the Jets have at making the playoffs just got even smaller Saturday afternoon. The Jets didn’t get the help they might have been hoping for from the Minnesota Vikings Saturday afternoon after the Cincinnati Bengals overcame a 14-3 deficit to win 27-24 in overtime. The win puts the Bengals at 8-6 and into the AFC’s No. 6 seed in the playoff picture.
The win also helped simplify the Jets’ playoff elimination scenarios for Week 15. One of the ways the Jets could be knocked out was a loss plus a Bills win plus a Bengals win or tie. With the Bengals taking care of business, now only a loss to Miami and a Buffalo win over Dallas officially ends any playoff hopes for the Jets.
Keep in mind that every elimination scenario for the Jets requires a loss, so if New York can pull the upset Sunday, they will be alive heading into Week 16 when they host the Washington Commanders.
