Now that was some loss by the New York Jets against the New England Patriots in Week 8.
But really, by “some loss” it’s not just a figure of speech. It was actually historically by a few metrics.
The defeat to the Patriots (2-6) in a 25-22 final on Sunday sank the Jets (2-6) into a five-game losing streak. Ouch.
Even more difficult to swallow, with three different areas of the final stats combined, New York’s loss was historic. According to ESPN research, there has been 751 games in NFL history where a team has:
- Scored 20+ points
- Did not commit a turnover
- And, allowed fewer than 250 yards
Of that 751 figure, teams that have accomplished those feats have won 750 of those 751 times.
Oh, boy… you know where this is going.
The 2024 Jets on Sunday against the Patriots are the only team to ever put up such numbers… and lose. What a season.
Scored 20+ points
Didn’t turn it over
Allowed fewer than 250 yardsIn NFL history, teams are 750-1 (including playoffs) when generating that box score.
The only loss is the Jets yesterday.
