Jet2 set for busiest-ever weekend as families prepare for summer holidays

Jet2 is set for its busiest-ever weekend as almost 150,000 holidaymakers travel to and from destinations across the Mediterranean and Canary Islands. It comes as airports continue to struggle to keep up with demand, with long queues caused by staff shortages.

However, despite recent disruption within the travel industry, Jet2 says it has not cancelled any flights due to a shortage of staff. A fleet of 106 aircraft will be in operation over the weekend, with the airline running more than 800 flights - with over 425 flights tomorrow (July 23) alone - including some from Leeds Bradford Airport.

As families prepare to jet away during the school summer holidays, the airline and tour operator will fly holidaymakers to more than 50 popular destinations from 10 bases across the UK. Majorca, Tenerife and Faro (Algarve) are set to be the most popular locations this weekend, with flights to the Balearics, Canaries, Mainland Spain, Cyprus, Malta, Turkey and Greece also proving popular, WalesOnline reports.

Steve Heapy, chief executive of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, said: "This weekend marks the start of the peak summer holiday period and, thanks to our continued growth, it represents our busiest weekend ever. We always knew this was going to be a bumper summer with all types of customer - families, couples, groups and solo travellers - jumping at the chance to get away for their much-needed holidays.

"That is precisely why we took early action to make sure we had the team in place to operate a huge programme, whilst delivering the industry-leading customer service we are known for. I am extremely proud of the way our colleagues have continued to look after customers and for the fact that we have not cancelled a single flight because of staff shortages.

"As the peak summer holiday season begins and holidaymakers get away to the sunshine, we know that customers will remember who has looked after them, as well as who has not."
