Airline and tour operator Jet2 is adding extra peak season flights to four Mediterranean island hotspots to handle a rush of bookings for the popular destinations.
The extra routes have been scheduled from Manchester to Majorca, Ibiza, Santorini and new destination Sardinia following the removal of testing and travel restrictions by both the UK and overseas governments.
It also comes with advice from the company that late deal offers could be restricted because of the demand for foreign holidays after two years of Covid-linked travel restrictions.
Steve Heapy, chief executive of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, said: “Over the past couple of years we have always maintained that demand will come roaring back once customers start to see travel returning to normal.
“That is really proving to be the case, with all seasons and all types of holiday looking extremely popular. Summer ‘22 is the long-awaited moment when everyone can all finally enjoy a normal summer holiday once again, and our customers are flocking to get that sunshine booked in.”
He continued: “As always, we will be responding to demand by adding more flights and holidays, such as the additional capacity we are announcing to Sardinia, Santorini, Majorca and Ibiza today.
“Although we always look to give our customers unrivalled choice and flexibility, this strong demand coupled with holidaymakers looking to really treat themselves this summer, could make things look a little different this year.
“For instance, with holidaymakers acting quickly to book the best rooms, hotels and destinations, the late deal could well become harder to find as the year progresses.”
Additional flights scheduled:
- Sardinia – Saturdays between July 23 and September 24 to give two weekly departures;
- Ibiza – additional Saturday and Sunday flights between July 23 and September 25 to give up to three departures a day at weekends, on top of up to 16 weekly services;
- Majorca – additional Thursday flights between July 21 and September 22 means up to 27 weekly departures, including up to five on Thursdays;
- Santorini – additional Sunday flights between July 24 and September 25, giving up to four departures a week.
