Jet2 issues Spain warning as passengers could be hit by airport delays this month

Jet2 has warned that travellers headed to popular Spanish hotspots could face delays amid industrial action in the European country.

ATC strike action in the Arrecife airport in Lanzarote as well as Alicante, Fuerteventura and Ibiza's main travel hubs could cause delays, the airline has warned.

The strikes have already begun, and will continue on intermittent days until April 30. There are six days of walkouts between now and the end of the month.

A warning on the budget airline's website states: "We wanted to let you know that industrial strike action that will affect Air Traffic services at the above airports is taking place on the following dates and times:

"April 9, 13, 16, 20, 23, 27, 30 Between 14:00 and 16:00 (UK Time)"

Jet2 went on to warn that "flights operating to or from these airports during these times may be delayed."

The Jet2 advice continued: "Check-in will close 40 minutes before your flight's scheduled departure time and in order to get you on the way as quickly as possible our friendly Customer Helpers will board your flight for your scheduled time so we are in a position to depart as soon as we can.

"Our UK-based Operations teams are working hard to minimise any delays and rest assured we’ll have you on your way as soon as we can."

This comes amid separate disruption caused by UK strike action. Travel within the country has previously been impacted by walkouts at major travel hub Heathrow.

Additionally, those applying for vital travel documents could face disruption as passport office workers have launched five weeks of strikes over pay and pensions.

However, there are currently no plans to change official guidance, which states that it takes up to 10 weeks to get a passport.

Despite this, Paul Charles, chief executive of travel consultancy The PC Agency, told the PA News agency that airport and Passport Office strikes are "causing disruption and I expect those to worsen in the coming months".
