Jet2 issues fresh travel warning to people heading to parts of Spain

Jet2 has warned holidaymakers travelling to two Spanish destinations that they may face some “disruption” due to walkouts by ground handling staff. Throughout March and into April staff with ground handler Swissport will go on strike several days a week at Barcelona and Lanzarote airports.

The strike action began on February 27 and will take place on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays until April 13, the airline said. Passengers have been advised that there will be fewer staff at the airport, although Jet2 staff will try to minimise any “disruption”.

A statement on the Jet2 website said: “We wanted to let you know that Ground Handling strike action is taking place on 27th February 2023 through to 13th April 2023 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, supported by the Swissport Ground Handling Service in Barcelona and Lanzarote (Arrecife).

“This means that there will not be as many members of staff available at the Airport. If you're affected, rest assured we'll try to keep any disruption to a minimum.”

Those flying with Jet2 are advised to arrive at the airport at least two hours before their departure time. Passengers are urged to check the Jet2 website for any updates, as well as keeping an eye on the departure screens and listening out for any announcements.
