Jet2, easyJet, TUI and Ryanair issue urgent advice on what to do before your flight as UK airport chaos continues

Travel chaos persists at many UK airports with holidaymakers complaining about long queues and last minute cancellations.

Over the past few weeks Manchester Airport and Leeds Bradford Airport have been struggling with an influx of travellers following the lifting of coronavirus travel restrictions. Staff shortages as well as half-term exacerbated the issues with airline bosses warning of a "challenging" summer.

Operator TUI announced it would cancel hundreds of flights due to depart from Manchester Airport this month in a bid to prevent further travel chaos. Wizz Air was also forced to scrap dozens of flights from Doncaster Sheffield Airport to minimise disruption.

People are advised to arrive in plenty of time before their flight but no more than three hours in advance in order to avoid adding pressure on earlier departures. Travellers are also urged to familiarise themselves with security checks.

Top travel tips

48-hours before you travel

Passengers affected by cancellations will usually be contacted either via telephone or email. Make sure you also check your spam folder so that you don't miss any important updates.

24-hours before you travel

It's also a good idea to keep an eye out on the airline's social media channels as it might give you a heads-up on any potential delays or cancellations. On the day of your travel it might also provide you with updates in real time and warn you of any changes to your journey.

On the day of your travel

On the day of your departure, check the status of your flight before you leave for the airport, using your airline’s app (from those mentioned above), the airport's website or a third-party website such as FlightAware Flight Tracker. This flight-tracking data company lets search by flight number or route.
