A holiday airline declared an emergency on one of its planes which forced it to make an urgent landing. The Jet2 service bound for Edinburgh had earlier taken off from Alicante in Spain but confirmed an incident as it was flying over the Yorkshire Dales.
It declared an emergency situation via squawk code 7700 on the flight LS776 on April 7, which is the label used to alert air traffic control. @BootingPixel tweeted: "Jet2 737-800 on flight LS776 has declared an emergency situation via squawk code 7700 Reason is yet to be known but aircraft is looking to approach Edinburgh airport as soon as humanly possible Hope everything is okay on board," reports LeedsLive.
@RadarBox24 said: "Jet2 #LS776 from Alicante to Edinburgh is declaring an emergency via squawk 7700." The code indicates an emergency and Jet2 has since confirmed a passenger was in need of urgent medical assistance on board the flight.
The aircraft later landed safely at Edinburgh airport to enable the passenger to receive the assistance required. A Jet2 spokesman said: "A customer onboard requires medical assistance."
