Jesy Nelson flooded with support as she gives pregnancy update after emergency surgery

Jesy Nelson has been flooded with support after revealing her “successful” emergency surgery to prevent complications around her high-risk pregnancy condition.

The former Little Mix singer, 33, explained earlier this month that she had been diagnosed with twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS), which could harm one or both of her twins.

In a video with her partner Zion Foster on Instagram on Sunday, Nelson happily announced that the condition had “cleared up” and she is “so grateful” that her unborn babies are “going strong”.

“Hey guys! We just wanted to give you guys an update, as we know it’s been a while,” she said, while filming in her hospital room.

“I don’t know if you can see, but we are still in hospital. I’ve been recovering, but we have some amazing news.

“The TTTS has cleared up, the operation was a success, which is just absolutely incredible. We are so, so lucky to have the most amazing doctors.”

Nelson added that she will remain in hospital as she is at risk of going into labour prematurely.

“Basically, the situation we’re in now is my cervix is very, very short, so I can’t leave the hospital because my waters could break at any point and I’m still very, very early,” the Romford-born star said.

“I can’t leave the hospital until I’m a certain amount of weeks, so every week we’re just like, ‘Please, please, please, stay in there!’ But we're just so grateful that [the twins] are still here and they're still going strong.”

Foster added: “We're just one week at a time. We're in such a blessed position to even be able to make this video.”

The music producer also revealed he has made the “impromptu decision” to run the London Marathon next month to support the Twins Trust charity.

“Obviously with Jess going through what she's going through, as much as I'm going through it too, I feel like I'm not really carrying the babies,” he explained.

“So this was my way of saying I'm going to throw myself in the deep end. I'm going to run a marathon in four weeks!”

He has raised more than £2,100 out of a £25,000 target, according to the site JustGiving.

The couple praised the charity and urged fans to donate, before concluding: “So that's our news, come on Zion and come on twins. We need them to stay in there, keep going!”

Nelson captioned the video: “Happy Mother’s Day to all the beautiful Mumas! Just a little update on our current situation. Link is in our bio to donate to @twinstrust.”

She received an emotional outpouring of support from celebrities and fans alike in the comments.

Stacey Dooley posted three party celebration emojis while TOWIE star Georgia Kousoulou gushed: “Oh, so so happy to hear this!!! I’ve been checking for updates.”

Fellow TOWIE alum Billie Shepherd added, “Amazing news. Sending you all lots of love,” and Made In Chelsea’s Ashley James commented: “So happy for you both and keeping positive thoughts for you all.”

One fan added, “Omg I'm gonna sob, I'm so happy for you,” while another enthused: “Oh my. I’ve been really worried and scared. I’m so happy for you all! I’ve prayed every day, I’m so happy for you both my loves.”

Nelson previously said her twins were monochorionic diamniotic (MCDA), meaning they share a single placenta but have their own separate sacs.

According to the NHS website, TTTS affects 10 to 15 per cent of identical twins who share a placenta, and it “can have serious consequences”.

The condition is caused by abnormal connecting blood vessels in the twins’ placenta which leads to an imbalanced blood flow from one twin, known as the donor, to the recipient twin, leaving one baby with a greater blood volume than the other.

Nelson announced her pregnancy in January by posting a photo of her with Foster, who placed a hand over her bump.

She left Little Mix in December 2020 after nine years in the successful girl group.

The girl group, which was formed on The X Factor in 2011, also featured Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Perrie Edwards and Jade Thirlwall as members.
