American tennis players monitor their favorite NFL teams despite being at the Australian Open. Jessica Pegula and Tommy Paul’s hometown teams scored big wins on Sunday, advancing to their conference championships.
Jessica Pegula
Jessica Pegula lives and breathes Buffalo sports most notably the Buffalo Bills and the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres. Her parents, Terry Pegula and Kim Pegula, own the teams.
Pegula was among the first to tweet her excitement about the Bills holding on to defeat the visiting Baltimore Ravens and advancing to the AFC Championship against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium next weekend.
Well I’m not in Australia anymore 😢 but #BillsMafia let’s goooo @BuffaloBills

The bittersweet part of Pegula’s message is that she is so happy for the Bills but still wishes she was in Australia, competing for the Australian Open title. Serbian Olga Danilovic defeated Pegula in straight sets in the third round.
Tommy Paul
Tommy Paul is still in Australia. Today, he plays in a quarterfinal against World No. 2 Alexander Zverev. Paul has plenty to celebrate, including the fact that his Philadelphia Eagles held off the surging Los Angeles Rams in a snowy mess of a game on Sunday.
When Paul, a New Jersey native, is not wearing a New Balance baseball cap, he can be spotted wearing an Eagles one.
Paul has another reason to be happy: He has cracked the Top 10 for the first time in his career. In a recent interview, while he was wearing his Eagles cap, he admitted to checking the live rankings from time to time. Paul will definitely check them next week.

In the meantime, he is hopeful that both he and his Eagles record big wins next weekend in the Australian Open finals and the NFC Championship, respectively.
