Jesse Marsch tipped to accept USMNT manager role after Leeds United exit

Jesse Marsch has beeen tipped to become the next manager of the USA national team after leaving Leeds, with former USMNT player Eric Wyndala backing the 49-year old to replace Gregg Berhalter.

Marsch leaves Leeds having saved the club from relegation last season, but this season has been tough for him with no wins since the league returned from its six week World Cup break.

The arrival of Sean Dyche at Everton and their subsequent win against Arsenal has increased pressure on teams in the Premier League relegation battle and the Leeds hierarchy relieved the manager of his duties on Sunday. The news followed defeat to fellow relegation candidates Nottingham Forest and Leeds will now look for a new manager.

However, the decision could prove to be opportune for Marsch, with the USA head coach role having become available amid a tumultuous fallout from the World Cup. A falling out with Giovani Reyna has been made public since the tournament and Berhalter left the role leaving Marsch to be tipped to take over.

The USA host the next World Cup and Marsch is by far the biggest American name available in management at present. This has been suggested by former USMNT centurion Eric Wyndala as a potential option for the manager's job in the build-up to the tournament.

Reports in the US suggest the same, with Wyndala revealing his views exclusively to Express Sport, he said: "Jesse is a good fit for several reasons. He's very familiar with the federation, has a very intelligent approach to scouting and understands the mentality," Express Sport," he said.

"[He] has coached numerous American players and will be a breath of fresh air to the media. His tactics are fairly clear and a continuation of his work at his three previous stops - New York Red Bull, Salzburg and RB Leipzig.

"The experiment did not work in Leeds but it might be far better suited to the American roster. The media will enjoy a Jesse Marsch return more than anybody... he enjoys the spotlight."
