Jesse Marsch has been sacked by Leeds United after less than a year at the helm following Sunday's 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest.
The American was appointed after Marcelo Bielsa was dismissed at the tail-end of last season and managed to keep the Whites in the Premier League, however, Leeds have struggled this term and have failed to win in the league since November.
A club statement read: "Leeds United can confirm head coach Jesse Marsch has been relieved of his duties.
"Jesse joined the club in February 2022 and was instrumental in keeping the club in the Premier League on the final day of last season. Rene Maric, Cameron Toshack and Pierre Barrieu will also leave the club.
"We would like to thank Jesse and his backroom staff for their efforts and wish them well for the future. The process of appointing a new head coach is underway and we will continue to keep supporters up to date throughout the coming days."
Marsch was taunted with chants by his own supporters at the City Ground as they were condemned to another defeat against a side near them in the league table. Disgruntled Leeds fans urged for him to be sacked during the game, which was decided by Brennan Johnson's first-half strike.
Speaking after the game, Marsch insisted he empathised with fan frustration but claimed his team deserved the win. Forest debutant Keylor Navas made a string of saves, with the visitors dominating possession throughout the encounter.
"I'm almost in disbelief that we found a way to lose because for me, we're better in almost every phase. We controlled the match and we should win but right now, we are finding ways to lose and that's difficult to swallow," said Marsch.
Under his guidance, the Whites have won just two of their last 17 top-flight matches and he added that the responsibility for getting them out of relegation trouble rested with him. "It's my responsibility and I understand their frustration and doubts and I accept it," he added.
"Internally we have belief here, we do. The players are all in, they give everything they have. I have to find a way to the good things which are happening into results or we find ourselves in a stressful situation."
The new manager will inherit a team only out of the relegation zone by virtue of goal difference. Leeds now have back-to-back fixtures with arch rivals Manchester United before six-pointers with Everton and Southampton.
Marsch becomes the seventh manager to be sacked since the start of the season. He joins Frank Lampard - who was axed by Everton last month, Chelsea ’s Thomas Tuchel, Steven Gerrard of Aston Villa, ex-Wolves boss Bruno Lage, Ralph Hasenhuttl at Southampton and Scott Parker at Bournemouth to lose their jobs already this season.
