Jesse Marsch's Leeds United pre-season admission acknowledges Wolves worries

Ten years of pre-seasons have told Jesse Marsch it would be unusual for Leeds United to go into their new Premier League campaign feeling ready. After a win, draw and loss in Australia, the head coach is happy with the trajectory his side is on, even if there remains a lot of work to do.

A-League’s Brisbane Roar held their own for long periods of their Leeds friendly, while the Whites were not able to consistently threaten either of Aston Villa’s or Crystal Palace’s goals. As Marsch said, the biggest benefit from the trip away was arguably the integration off the field of the new faces into the existing squad.

If any fans did have concerns about the way Leeds may be playing with one friendly and 12 days to go, Marsch moved to reassure them in Perth. While happy with the progress made, he does not dispute there will still be creases to iron out when Wolverhampton Wanderers visit a week on Saturday.

“I don't know how many years I've been a manager now, but I've literally never come out of pre-season and gone into the season feeling like we're ready,” he said. “It's just the reality.

“It's an ongoing process, but, from day one, the work and the concentration from this group of players has always allowed us to, day by day, maximise what we're trying to become. I still know there's so much work to do, but again, I feel we're going to have a good team this season.”
