Jesse Marsch provides Leeds United injury update on Wober, Cooper, Struijk and Koch

Jesse Marsch will be checking on the fitness of several Leeds United defenders as Sunday’s Premier League clash with Brentford approaches. The Whites saw off Cardiff City in style on Friday night, winning 5-2 to secure their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup and they did it with what was an unfamiliar back line.

Liam Cooper and Robin Koch were both struggling with minor injuries in the build-up to the clash, meaning Diego Llorente and new signing Max Wober started together in the centre of defence against the Bluebirds. Pascal Struijk was also missing, with Marsch revealing the Dutchman has picked up a knee issue.

Marsch didn’t give too much away regarding the extent of their injuries, but he’ll be watching Wober closely, too, over the next few days after seeing the defender’s home debut come to a premature end following a hefty collision. The Austrian lasted 57 minutes before being replaced by Luke Ayling but Marsch is optimistic about his fitness ahead of the Brentford’s visit this weekend.

“I asked him in the dressing room and he said he doesn't think it's too bad,” Marsch said when asked about the January addition’s injury. “So hopefully, he can regenerate and go again.

“Pascal was carrying a little bit of a knee knock. It's the reason we didn't play him. Robin and Coops each had a little bit of a knock so we decided not to stress them.

“Obviously getting Luis (Sinisterra) back, Georgi (Rutter) has looked really good in training. So yeah, we start to have a really good squad and potential to push this thing.”
