Jesse Marsch makes clear Thomas Tuchel red card claim ahead of Leeds United vs Chelsea

Leeds manager Jesse Marsch has admitted that he would be 'disappointed' if Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is allowed on the touchline for the Premier League fixture between the two sides this weekend.

Tuchel was sent off after multiple altercations with Tottenham manager Antonio Conte on the touchline during the London derby last weekend, with referee Anthony Taylor showing both a red card at the full-time whistle. Tuchel said he was upset after the game that VAR did not intervene in incidents involving Kai Havertz, Marc Cucurella and Richarlison.

"If the mistake is that big and that obvious, what is the point of not admitting when the whole world sees it," the German said in his pre-match press conference on Friday regarding Mike Dean's decisions, which have since been explained in a separate interview from the retired referee himself. Tuchel and Conte were both charged by the FA for alleged "improper behaviour" after the match.

The statement from the FA reads: "Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte have both been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3, following the Premier League fixture between Chelsea and Tottenham on Sunday, August 14, 2022. It is alleged that the behaviour of both managers was improper following the end of the fixture. Both managers have until Thursday, 18 August, 2022 to provide their respective responses."

Both coaches face potential match suspensions, and it remains unclear if they will allowed on the touchline this weekend. Speaking ahead of his side's clash with Chelsea on Sunday, Marsch had his say on the situation.

"He won't be there. Are they saying he may be on the bench?" he said.

"That doesn't seem right, I mean if you get a red card, you are out of the match. I would be disappointed if they allowed him to be on the bench. There's a simple rule in football. Whether it's soccer or football, you cannot play the next match."

In Tuchel's absence if he isn't to be allowed on the sidelines would be his assistant Zsolt Low. Someone Marsch knows the qualities of well.

"In theory, when the manager isn't there, it is an advantage but [I] also know Zsolt Low quite well, their assistant. He is a brilliant football mind and I have no doubt that he will be able to help out from there."
