Staff will not be left in the lurch to do Jesse Marsch’s job for him again, the Leeds United head coach has vowed. After being sent off at Brentford last month, the Whites boss was banned from the touchline for Sunday’s visit of Aston Villa.
While Marsch watched the match from the press box, assistant head coach Rene Maric stepped inton the breach in the technical area and Mark Jackson kept in contact with the American from the dugout. Communication may not have proved a problem, but Marsch knows it’s nothing like the real thing with him on the touchline for the players, staff and fans to feed off.
The United chief was delighted with how his backroom team handled what was a testy game at times that, of course, included a red card for the hosts and a need to react tactically. However, Marsch does not want to put them in that position again through his own behaviour.

“Jacko and I were talking and I tried to not be in his ear every 30 seconds,” he said. “I tried to measure that carefully.
“We had good communication and the staff and the players carried out the plan and we were even discussing subs as we were having different discussions. The changes we made were good.
“The players that came on were good and the staff did an outstanding job of managing the situation. I prefer in the future to not put anyone in that situation again, so I will try to behave myself a little bit better.”
