Jesse Marsch and Leeds United handed potential Europa League boost ahead of Manchester United game

Next Sunday sees Leeds United face off against old rivals Manchester United as Jesse Marsch's Whites travel to Old Trafford to take on Erik ten Hag's side.

The Dutch manager endured a testing couple of weeks in the Premier League but looks to have gotten Manchester United's Premier League season back on track with four consecutive domestic wins on the bounce.

However, prior to their clash against Leeds, ten Hag's side are faced with the daunting prospect of a 3,670-mile round trip to face off against Moldovan side Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League.

And their long haul trip could give Marsch and co an added boost when the two sides face off next Sunday.

Of course, there's no guarantee that this will have any effect upon Manchester United, especially given their currently league form.

But their Europa League opener against Real Sociedad, which they lost 1-0, did see ten Hag use a host of first-team regulars, including Christian Eriksen, Diego Dalot, Jadon Sancho and Bruno Fernandes.

The likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Maguire, who do not appear to be in ten Hag's starting XI plans, were also used against La Real, meaning the new Manchester United manager may have to think carefully about who to select when they head over to Moldova.

Additionally, with last weekend's fixtures being postponed following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Leeds could be able to welcome back Patrick Bamford into the starting line-up at Old Trafford.

Bamford's return to Marsch's starting line-up, as well as the weekend off from Premier League action could both help Leeds massively. They will be hoping this season to put on a better show against Manchester United, who beat them 5-1 and 4-2 respectively home and away last term.
