Nottingham Forest midfielder Jesse Lingard has responded to the club making the semi-final of the Carabao Cup.
Forest took on Premier League rivals Wolves in the quarter-final of the competition on Wednesday night. The game ended in a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes, with Willy Boly’s 18th minute goal ruled out by Raul Jimenez’s equaliser in the 64th minute.
The draw meant that the result would be determined by a penalty shootout. Dean Henderson was the hero for Forest, saving penalties from Ruben Neves and the decisive one from Joe Hodge to send Forest through to the two-legged semi-final of the competition.

The win sparked scenes of celebration around the City Ground, with Lingard, who was ruled out of the game with a hamstring injury, joining in. Images show the midfielder out on the pitch at full time hugging teammates and celebrating with fans.
The conclusion of the game also saw the draw done for the semi-finals of the competition, with Forest facing Lingard’s former club Manchester United over two legs in a bid to reach the Wembley final. The Red Devils overcame Charlton in their quarter-final on Tuesday night.
Following the celebrations on the pitch, Lingard took to social media to give his reaction to the result. “Onto the semis”, he wrote on Instagram. “What a night.”
Lingard will be forced to sit out a few more games due to his injury, starting with the Premier League visit of Leicester City on Saturday. But he will be hoping to be fit for the first leg of the semi-final against United which is due to take place at the City Ground in just under two weeks.
The second leg will then take place a week later at Old Trafford. A win over the two legs will see Forest return to Wembley for the second time in two seasons after a memorable play-off final victory there back in May.
