Jesse Lingard reveals what Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper has already 'taught' him

New Nottingham Forest signing Jesse Lingard has revealed head coach Steve Copper has already "taught" him the way that the Reds are going to play this season.

The England international has made clear that he has already spoken to Cooper about the team's structure on the pitch and that those conversations have left him excited to start playing at the City Ground. The first opportunity to put that teaching into practice could come as soon as tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon when Forest take on Union Berlin in the German capital.

Lingard also believes that the Reds possess the "perfect mix" of personnel combining experience with youth. But, despite arriving to much fanfare as a free agent after leaving Manchester United earlier this summer, the 29-year-old is under no illusions that he will waltz into the starting XI and that hard work is required on his behalf to earn the spot in the team.

"I'm on a level playing field with everyone, and I've got to work hard to play in the team and gain a spot in the team.," Lingard told Forest TV. "The manager and the owners have been brilliant with me, the manager’s taught me the way how they're gonna play, the structure of how they're gonna play and it’s really insightful and gives me excitement to get on the pitch and play for him.

Lingard also added about how he is looking forward to working with Cooper: "He's been a great manager for many years and he knows how to run a team and coach a team and when you have the mixture of older players, experienced players and younger players, I think it's the perfect mix.
