Jesse Lingard posts cryptic message ahead of his Manchester United exit

Jesse Lingard has sent a cryptic parting message as his time at Manchester United comes to an end.

The winger is one of a number of players expected to leave Old Trafford this summer as his contract expires. Lingard’s departure has been on the cards for over a year, although he has been left frustrated in his attempts to gain more playing time.

Having spent the second half of last season on loan at West Ham, a permanent move to London looked likely last summer, only for the 29-year-old to stay put after being assured of chances under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. His appearances continued to be fleeting, and he made another attempt to head out on loan in January.

A move to Newcastle was called off after United pulled the plug on the deal, despite interim manager Ralf Rangnick originally giving his approval. Since then, Lingard has again found appearances hard to come by.

His time at United came to a bitter end when he was left on the bench for the Reds’ final home game of the season against Brentford, leading to family members publicly criticising the club. Lingard was then left out of the squad for the final match of the campaign at Crystal Palace.

The England international has been on holiday in Los Angeles following the conclusion of the season and has now posted a cryptic message which would appear to reference his exit from United. He wrote: “They didn’t believe in us…….. GOD DID!”

Although his departure is yet to be confirmed, Lingard is expected to be one of a number of players leaving United this summer. He looks set to join Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic in exiting the club, while others could follow.
