Jesse Lingard point made as Nottingham Forest confirm contract decision

Nottingham Forest fans have given their reaction to the club announcing its retained list for the new season.

The club have confirmed that summer signing Jesse Lingard is among six players to leave the City Ground upon the expiry of their contracts at the end of the season. Lingard joins Lyle Taylor, Cafu, Andre Ayew, Jack Colback and Jordan Smith in leaving the club.

Loanees Dean Henderson, Keylor Navas and Renan Lodi are set to return to their parent clubs on the expiry of their loan deals. Foret are, though, said to be keen to extend Henderson’s and Lodi’s stay.

Lingard joined Forest on a free transfer last summer, putting pen to paper on a one-year deal at the City Ground. Injury disrupted his time at the club, meaning he made just 17 league appearances. His final appearance for the club came as a late substitute in the 2-0 loss against his former club Manchester United at the City Ground back in April.

Despite his lack of game time, Lingard has been praised for his attitude off the pitch.

Following the news of the players leaving the club, Forest fans took to social media to give their reaction. Here’s what just some had to say.

Ron : Feel sad it never worked out for Jesse, wish him the best with whatever is next. Clearly a great character to have around. Really wish it worked out.

Red Dog Spartacus : Some big names to say goodbye to! Colback, Lingard and Cafu in particular, for different reasons, and Taylor had his moments. Shout out to Jordan Smith too. Still lots of deadwood to remove. #NFFC

Tim Watson : Wishing those released the best for the future. Really going to miss Cafu - never seen a footballer smile as much and as often as him!

James : Sad to see Lyle Taylor & Cafu go. Wish them nothing but the best. Am grateful for their contributions.

Jam : Will the dressing room vibes be the same without Lingard? #nffc

Warren Allsworth : Lingard was worth a punt & his attitude has been brilliant even if it hasn’t quite worked. Wish him all the best for the future. #NFFC

Food, Fun and Premier League : Hope Jesse Lingard can revive his career after leaving #NFFC. Was a massively exciting signing and a signal we were back in the big time. Such a shame he got injured just as he was starting to find some form. Clearly popular in the dressing room and bought fully into the club.
